Her Hymn is a daughter’s re-examination of a lost roll of super-8 film, depicting her mother at 16. The piece consists of twelve 16mm loops which move through a scene; a young woman in a robe seated before a mirror, staring at her reflection, scratching at her skin, admiring her shoulders, chin, and reading a magazine. By looping the images, the daughter reactivates her mother’s ritual of preparing the body to be seen, and explores the eternal pressures and pleasures of feminine presentation.
